So, grab a cup of coffee, tea, or, even better, milk, and join us on Friday, May 2 at 8:30 a.m. This month, we’re featuring DBA Director of Government Affairs Chad Zulegar, who will be joined by Shawn Pfaff from Pfaff Public Affairs to provide an update on the latest in Wis. state policy impacting dairy. Topics will include insights into policy activities happening in Madison, DBA’s current policy priorities and our priorities with Clean Water Initiative partners.

USTR revises Chinese shipping fees, groups comment

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative on Friday released a Federal Register notice proposing fees on Chinese-connected ships that were not as high as the original proposals that alarmed agricultural exporters, but still pose challenges for the industry.

Cover crops for improved surface water quality: Benefits and limitations

Cover crops are a dynamic tool used by farmers to provide a variety of functions, including soil health, water quality, weed control and legume nitrogen crediting. In Wisconsin, a majority of cover crops are promoted and funded to improve surface water quality through erosion control and nutrient capture.

DBA cancels lobby day due to good weather

Several state legislative issues are high priorities for Wisconsin’s dairy farmers, but they will have to lobby for them another day. 

 

Wednesday was supposed to be the day where members of the Dairy Business Association visited with lawmakers about issues important to the industry, but DBA’s Chad Zuleger tells Brownfield the weather prevented that from happening.

Dairy Market Report for April 17

Welcome back to our Dairy Market Report! We partner with Ever.Ag to bring you highlights of recent dairy market activities, as well as a summary of key market indicators.

 

Cheese markets bounced higher on light volume. CME spot blocks closed at $1.8350 per pound, up nine cents on the week. Barrels climbed to $1.90 per pound on Tuesday – the highest levels since October – only to fade back to $1.8400, still up 3.5 cents from last Friday. Reports suggest that strong export demand – on the back of competitive US versus European values – may have helped support the run.
